In all my classes we work together to help each other. We get to know everyone, and we listen to everyone¨s life story and opinions. English isn¨t a list of words from a dictionary to memorize. English is about communicating meaning. It¨s about sharing your story and your opinion. Then we learn to listen to each and disagree respectfully. Class time is about learning from other people, and we use English to do that.

Your Vocabulary Size How many words do you know? Your answer to this question will change your life. If you know 1000 words, you can talk about yourself and understand all English grammar. If you know 2000 words, you can listen to and enjoy pop music and make friends in English. If you know 3000 words, you can speak English without help and enjoy any movie in English. If you know 8000 words, you can do anything without help. I hope that my vocabulary research will enable you to be able to do anything you want to do in English.

For me, words are your future. The best way to learn words is to read books. The second best way is to watch videos with subtitles. From this base of words you have learned from books and videos you can talk about anything. From speaking English, you can learn 3000 words. From listening to English media, you can learn 4000 words. From reading, you can learn over 8000 English words. These 8000 words will help you think more clearly and more deeply. This is why reading books in English is the best thing you can do for your future.

In class, I hope to create students who love learning, students who will be curious and continue learning even after they graduate from our university. To do this, I expose students to content from outside the textbook through authentic pictures, videos and readings from real-life. Then we reflect and share our opinions and related experiences. Being able to relate to people and listen to their opinions is a life skill that I hope students will be able to use for the rest of their lives in the world outside the classroom.
